Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first…
2 Thessalonians 2:3
The falling away that the Apostle Paul refers to in this verse is about the church falling away from the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ just before Jesus returns to rule the earth. This is exactly what we see happening today.
Not only has Oprah, the queen of the new age movement declared publicly that Jesus can’t be the only way to get to heaven, even the Pope has said that atheists can go to heaven as long as they do good. Wait a minute, what happened to believing that Jesus is the Son of God being the way to achieve salvation (John 3:16)? Clearly if you’re an atheist, you don’t believe in God, so how could you possibly believe that Jesus is God’s son?
The answer is simple. You can’t.
If ever there was a time when the church has fallen away from the truth, I think it’s safe to say that we’re witnessing it happening right before our very eyes.
Well, Oprah and the Pope might be the spiritual leaders of millions in the world today, but the spiritual authority in my life is Jesus Christ. So, let’s see what Jesus says about this matter.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6
This is about as clear as it can get. Does it sound like Jesus allowed for any wiggle room for anyone to find another path to salvation? Certainly not! But He didn’t stop there. He also said this:
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
John 10:9
But not everyone will choose to enter through the narrow gate, which is Jesus. In fact, the bible makes it clear that most people will opt for another way to get to heaven but they will fail and their failure will have eternal consequences.
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Matthew 7:13
Let’s all do our part to help our friends, neighbors, and loved ones find their way to the narrow gate (Jesus Christ) which is their only hope for salvation and eternal life.
