Theology and Christian Living
Glorious mess by Mike Howerton Mike is a glorious mess. I know because I identified with so many of the same silly mistakes and struggles that Mike has experienced. You’ll be uplifted, you’ll laugh out loud, but most importantly you’ll get solid biblical guidance. For example, Mike’s discussion about the importance of obedience is the best I’ve ever read or heard. This book was a delight to read and has earned a spot on the top of my most favorite Christian books list. |
Parables: The Mysteries of God’s Kingdom Revealed Through the Stories Jesus Told by John F. MacArthur Understanding the parables of Jesus is a great way to learn the gospel. As Pastor John MacArthur puts it, “a parable is an earthly story with a spiritual meaning”. The thing I love about parables is that they illustrate the gospel in a way that is most helpful for visual learners like myself.Through the book Pastor MacArthur works though a number of different parables whiles incorporating the culture and surrounding people and themes into every chapter. This increases your understanding far beyond what you could achieve by just reading the parables directly from the bible without the supplemental information that the author brings to bear. |
Hyper-Grace: Exposing the Dangers of the Modern Grace Message by Michael L. Brown. Learn how the glorious truth of grace being polluted by errors, leading to backsliding, compromise, and even the abandonment of faith. |
Did you know that 50% of Christian men struggle with porn addiction? Just imagine how wide spread it must be among secular men. Clean: A Proven Plan for Men Committed to Sexual Integrity by Douglas Weiss PHD, and a lot of prayer, will help you break free of this addiction. |
I’ve been following Kevin Halloran’s blog for a while now, and have come to know his writing as being biblically sound, thought provoking, insightful, and concise. His eBook, Word + Life : 20 Reflections on Prayer, the Christian Life, and the Glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best of his best.
It’s a short book, so one could gulp it down in one sitting if they so choose to, but I think you will get the greatest benefit from it by treating it as a daily devotional, where you read a short chapter and then meditate on what you’ve learned. You can also use each of the 20 chapters of the book as a personal or group bible study. However you choose to use it, if you’re like me you’ll want to keep it handy so you can read it over and over. |
Apologetics & False Religions
The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask: (With Answers) by Mark Mittelberg & Lee Strobel Learn how to effectively answer the tough questions that unbelievers ask but think you have no answer for. |
Want to learn what religions and denominations are false teachings and why? If so, Fast Facts on False Teachings by Ron Carlson should be the next book you read. |
Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels by J. Warner Wallace.
Mr. Wallace is a cold case homicide detective and Christian apologist. He also hosts the PleaseConvinceMe.com website and podcast. As an atheist, he studied the scriptures using the same techniques he would use as a cold case detective. He became a Christian as a result.I highly recommend it to everyone, regardless of where they are in their spiritual life. Here’s a video preview for the book, |
Who is Jesus Really?: A Dialogue on God, Man, and Grace (The Coffee House Chronicles) by Josh McDowell and Dave Sterrett
The facts of Christ’s historicity, resurrection, and that he claimed to be God are all proven by both the bible as well as plenty of sources outside of the bible. All of this is woven into an engaging story-line about a group of Christians who have coffee shop conversations with atheists. I learned a lot and it was an enjoyable read that I couldn’t put down.

It’s a great addition to every Christian’s bookshelf, as it will help you understand the mindset of the people in Jesus’ day and will help you understand the Roman and Jewish culture, which gives you more context and understanding when reading the Bible. |
